A Thread I will miss…
Glad to hear there is a new podcast on the way…but I am sorry to see this thread on the comment section come to an end, there is a lot of good stuff here starting with Chris’s adventure in Luxembourg with his classmates solving world problems…well first the Tennis World, then the world!, eh Chris… HJ’s humor is all over the place, not to mention some of her spot on picks, who knew she had it in her? Oh yeah, and the picks have been endlessly entertaining and add an extra dimension to my watching the matches, and I love it that we do it just for bragging rights…like it always should be. I appreciate Marcus’s comment about our podcast, and I feel the same way, it was a blast to make-so what if we ran a little overtime? We had important stuff to talk about! Mike’s comments were appreciated. And the tourny for me was a peak experience that I enjoyed chatting about here. Everyone with a little time on their hands should try volunteering, it’s good to help out and not be the boss, or even be particularly important. It helps keep you humble. I am very satisfied with the outcome, I think that a star is born in Djokovic…now he is no. 7, how high can he go? If I were the TMF I would practice a little harder now. And Canas has a great comeback. He showed courage and grit and took down TMF again for the second time in the last two tournaments knocking the tennis world on it’s ear. And yet, and yet with his success we are starting to hear the complaints about his former substance abuse. I think as he continues to rise and maybe even vie for a French Open title this topic will haunt him and his fans, sorry Chris.
Rainy Day in Miami…
It happens, even during a big tournament when people have taken time off of work and paid money for travel and tickets and food and sun tan lotion and, and…Mother nature says, not today, or at least not until this afternoon, late afternoon. And even then there is still wind and drizzling that stops play again. And the players squeak their sneakers on the lines to check for danger. I always give them the benefit of the doubt, they have to protect themselves from injury, but they do look a little wimpy. Stopping play because of a spritz of water brushed their cheek or something. The fans waited patiently, talking, hanging out by the scoreboard, shopping, eating. Thank goodness some of players practiced between the showers. I got some good photos of Blake, Djokovic, Santoro, Ljubicic, Youhzny and some lesser knowns working out. It’s easier to take photos and you can get a lot closer to the players when they are just practicing. Play did start late in the afternoon and through the night there was good action.
A couple of smart/nice things the tournament did for the fans was they allowed day ticket holders to stay for the night session, so no one felt short changed from the abbreviated day session. And the organizers allowed the people from the upper deck to fill in empty seats below, so everyone got a good seat to see the match of the day: Canas vs. Henman.
The seeds come out today. More later…
Rain delay…Here’s a musical interlude, just like at Radio Wimbledon…enjoy Regina Spektor.
Nadal thumps Djokovic…very good, no?
